KT Connects - Beyond engagement: Towards community-based and community-driven knowledge exchange in Indigenous health research
KT Connects (2020) - "Beyond engagement: Towards community-based and community-driven knowledge exchange in Indigenous health research" with Jessica Humchitt and Katie Bauder
This webinar provides a brief overview of Indigenous approaches to knowledge exchange (KE) and offers strategies for ensuring that community priorities are meaningfully reflected in KE processes and outcomes. Learn how community-based KE approaches can be applied to build capacity, transform the health care system and transcend limitations of the western colonial research model. Drawing on Indigenous protocols such as OCAP® and cultural safety and humility, the speakers discuss how to uphold Indigenous perspectives and knowledge and maintain a respectful approach when working with Indigenous collaborators. They also highlight some key examples of creative, strengths-based approaches for sharing research findings to communities that also function to improve health outcomes for Indigenous people and communities.
