Community-led KT: Experiences Translating Knowledge with Indigenous Communities

KT Canada National Seimar Series presents Dr. Wendy Gifford presenting on "Community-led Knowledge Translation: Experiences Translating Knowledge with Indigenous Communities" 

Learning objectives:

At the end of this presentation the audience will be able to:

  1. Describe reasons why disparities in health exist for Indigenous Peoples
  2. Understand the resilience of Indigenous peoples and why knowledge translation with Indigenous communities is distinct
  3. Describe processes for translating knowledge with Indigenous communities

Dr. Wendy Gifford is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa and Loyer-DaSilva Research Chair in Community and Public Health Nursing. Her program of research focuses on knowledge translation with health care providers with a specific focus on translating knowledge with Indigenous communities to improve health care delivery and outcomes for Indigenous peoples. Dr. Gifford has received funding from CIHR, Ministry of Ontario and Canadian Cancer Society in partnership with Indigenous communities. Prior to academia, she lived and worked as an outpost nurse in First Nations communities in Canada’s north.
